Floating PointsDonny Benét
He’s older now, more thoughtful and wise. He’s travelled the world and he’s seen some things. Time passes, and he matures like the finer things in life: behold the timeless, elegant, sophisticated man that is Donny Benét. More than a decade since the world first fell for his charms, Donny Benét is taking charge of his destiny like never before. His new album, number six, is called Infinite Desires, and it’s his most complete musical statement yet.
The songs on this album are playful and potent. Passionate and self-assured. He’s talking
about romance but he’s also talking about respect. He’s talking about intimacy and
gratification but he’s also talking about consent. And he’s bringing it all to life with the same
display of muscular musicality that’s been electrifying audiences around the globe for years.
Drop a pin anywhere on a map and chances are you’ll find Donny fans. From Prague to
Portland, Bratislava to Brooklyn, they know his name and they know what he represents.
Here’s a man who transcends borders with smooth beats, deep grooves and lyrics that
speak to our most fundamental desires.
With maturity comes an artist in control. The release of Infinite Desires coincides with the
launch of Donnyland Records, a bold new direction for a most distinctive, seductive
entertainer. The new label gives Donny the power to preserve a legacy he’s been building
since 2011 and empowers him to follow his creative path long into the future.
Be sure to join Donny and his band as they perform Infinite Desires in its entirety, along with all your favourite Benét hits. -

SebastianThirst: SebastiAn, Act II. It only took eight years of waiting for one of the most unique artists to finally deliver a new dose of contemporary electro pyrotechnics and a worthy successor to the smashing Total. During those eight years, SebastiAn successfully completed a 360° turn. Plus, it’s been eight years of putting his talent to the good use of others (Frank Ocean, Philippe Katerine, Charlotte Gainsbourg) to help him get to where he wants to be today. From European electro to American R&B via classic pop, Thirst sets ablaze all genres. His taste for explosive mechanisms (like his well-known “turbine” techno sub-genre label-mates at Ed Banger) made Total an elegantly revolutionary debut album that captivatingly took things to the extreme, while being as frightening as a ticking bomb. But now, the wait is over. Thirst bursts forward providing an amazing opening to brand new worlds. This 14-track adventure narrates the journey of how he mastered machines, his own demons and even several time zones.
“The general approach to this record corresponds to the time when Frank Ocean called me in Paris, telling me I had to be in Los Angeles the next day to work alongside him,” reveals SebastiAn. “At the same time, I’d met Charlotte Gainsbourg to produce her latest album. So I found myself working with these two opposing personalities: on one side you’ve got Frank Ocean, who’s ultra charismatic and fanciful, while on the other, Charlotte Gainsbourg is both an introvert yet so openly real. When Charlotte moved to New York, Frank landed in London, and so the work process suddenly switched. I found this really interesting. My record came about from all the encounters I made going between these two projects.” The energy from such contrasts brought this project to life, provoking SebastiAn to call upon an impressive list of artists to feature on Thirst (Syd from The Internet, Mayer Hawthorne, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Allan Kingdom, Sevdaliza, Cautious Clay, Sunni Colòn, Sparks, Gallant and Loota). “From Ed Banger to Jean-Louis Costes and Katerine, or Frank Ocean to Charlotte Gainsbourg, my music has always looked to build bridges,” outlines the self-confessed fan of DJ Premier, Giorgio Moroder and Suicide, who’s managed to bring different styles together as one on this record. From this head-on collision between cold European techno and the warm tones of R&B, hip-hop and American gospel comes a series of explosions which progressively topple towards unchartered territories. With a certain Slavic melancholy that’s an homage to his roots, SebastiAn makes the single Beograd evolve from metronomic dirty disco to a melody of cinematographic stature worthy of De Roubaix, entangled in a Chopin-esque lamenting sonata. The art of SebastiAn is certainly the art of suspense. He’s like a tightrope walker, juggling a balancing act from the intimate to the epic (just take Run For Me which is a tour de force), and from minimalism to baroque to create a mystical form of electronic music. Thirst has such a contemporary edge to it, and that’s because he’s not aiming for a total collision between music’s major current trends (electro and R&B), but in fact he’s looking to rearrange the rules, settling alight the history of pop (The Beach Boys-eque Better Now) and rock (Handcuffed To A Parking Meter reaching dizzying heights with his idols Sparks), and a certain classicism in a recurring dialogue between strings, piano and knob-twiddling machines.
In 2011, for the cover work for Total, Jean-Baptiste Mondino captured SebastiAn as a modern-day Narcissus, photographing the musician kissing his alter ego. Eight years later, the same photographer once again depicts the artist with his double, however this time the love affair has ended and it’s fists up ready for a fight. To sum up this game of metaphors, Thirst is a beefed-up declaration of love - not of SebastiAn to himself, but to the world around him. Thirst leaves you thirsty for more.

Busy P
A full decade after the release of 'Homework', and 8 years after Oizo broke through, Busy P (Pedro Winter) is the head of one of the most exciting record labels in the business. But for 11 years (and counting) Busy P has been working as Daft Punk's manager while handling Ed Banger Records and Headbanger, his management/media company. Oddly though, Busy explained that the method behind starting Ed Banger Records was fairly straightforward. "I had no plan when I created Ed Banger records," he told us, "I just wanted to share what I've learnt with Daft Punk. I wanted to [work with] new kids and their contemporary music." As an understudy of Daft Punk, Winter was certainly taught well. The originality of Ed Banger's image is one of the major factors behind its success; this originality is contingent upon its balance of artistically driven music and musically driven art. Winter enlisted So Me as Ed Banger's artistic director, and like Justice's grinding synth lines and striking hi-hat stabs, So Me's work has become one of the label's instantly recognizable hallmarks. His vision for the cover Busy P's 'Rainbow Man' E.P. is inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci's 'Vitruvian Man'; a tip of the hat to Busy P, renaissance man in his own right. Unsurprisingly, Busy P's own work fits comfortably on Ed Banger. His latest E.P. 'Rainbow Man' was released at the end of February, and it is yet another example of the frenzied, distorted dance-thrash that Ed Banger has really perfected in the past few years. The title track hammers through its slow-motion jerks and thrusts with interminable persistence; sounding something like the Chemical Brothers "Block Rockin' Beats". Only drunk. And abusive. His remix of Fancy's "What's Your Name Again" is disjointed, noisy and crazy hard--an archetypal Ed Banger track. Lastly "Chop Suey", the E.P.'s second song, is a bona-fide Ed Banger rump-shaker. Busy, hacks away at some classic booty samples and drags them through a caustic tangle of synthesizers. And yet, we all find ourselves dancing. Apparently "Chop Suey" is dedicated to DJ Funk, who last year turned Justice's "Let there Be Light" into 5 minutes of completely insane ghetto-house. Winter credits the American mid-west as a major inspiration for both his and Daft Punk's work. "Me and Daft Punk," he explained, "share the same roots and love for U.S. house music producers." "Of course Chicago is the hometown of our love for electronic music," Winter continued, elaborating on some other influences of his, "Kenny Dope from NYC is [a favorite]. Also I have lots of respect for genius hip-hop heads like DJ Premier, Timbaland and the Neptunes." Winter even credits Mike D, MCA and Ad Rock as early influences. Perhaps that's where Busy P gets some of his light-hearted energy. "As a DJ I want to party as much as the kids on the dancefloor," he told us, "I want to be close to the audience. DJs are not fucking rock stars!" Refreshingly inconspicuous words from a DJ/producer who has earned his place among the ranks of Daft Punk and Kenny Dope, and whose roots go well back into the 90s. Yet, Winter was apprehensive to answer questions regarding the direction of dance music in the future, or about the widespread resurgence of dance music right now. "Music is getting better, life too," he said, "I don't really think about the future, let's enjoy the moment now." That said, the near future looks pretty good for Busy P. Ed Banger is on tour in North America right now, and Busy P told us he will back on this side of the Atlantic this summer to tour with Daft Punk. Mr. Oizo's next release "Transexual" will be out on Ed Banger records this May (its around on Youtube and it sounds completely bananas) and the world is eagerly awaiting the release of Justice's forthcoming full-length.
