SidonieHace ahora casi una década que Sidonie se dieron a conocer al gran público, después de haber sorprendido a propios y extraños con su primer EP “Dragonfly” (Bip Bip’ 00) lleno de una sonoridad muy especial, donde la psicodelia, el rock, la música hindú o el surrealismo expuso al trío barcelonés a un escaparate mediático sin precedentes para una formación de origen independiente. Sus legendarios conciertos, con performance incluída donde podían acabar desnudos o disfrazados, no hizo más que aumentar su popularidad e inmediatamente su primer disco “Sidonie” (Bip Bip’ 01) los confirmó como algo más que una promesa.
El éxito obtenido por este debut los catapulta a la multinacional Sony BMG donde firman “Shell Kids” (Sony BMG’ 03) uno de los discos más aplaudidos por la crítica especializada y más querido por su ya masivo público, que ve en Sidonie un nuevo referente generacial por su combinación perfecta entre grupos como The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, David Bowie, The Doors, Velvet Underground o Pink Floyd. En aquel entonces algún periodista llegó a decir que “si los Sidonie hubieran publicado en los sesenta, la cultura musical española probablemente hubiera avanzado hacia otros derroteros”.
La inquietud por evolucionar como banda los lleva a plantearse el cambio de idioma en sus composiciones y gracias a “Fascinado” (Sony BMG’ 05) demuestran que el rock en Ñ tiene nuevos exponentes y horizontes, consiguiendo ampliar el género de la variada paleta musical del pop rock en castallano. Llegan entonces portadas, premios y grandes giras mientras Sidonie continúan con ese toque de dandismo vintage fresco e intacto, como remarcarán en “La Costa Azul” (Sony BMG’ 07) un verdadero mosaico sonoro que se inspira en el glamour barroco que Fitzgerald retrató en sus relatos sobre una aristocracia europea de dudoso honor... y que incluye auténticas gemas pop como “Los olvidados” y grandes perlas como “Nuestro baile del viernes”, diamantes pulidos artesanalmente con instrumentos tales como el clavicordio, melotrón, con sección de vientos y cuerdas, sitar o pedal-steel, que realzan el brillo a unas melodías afables, unas veces coreables y otras más de corte bailable.
La personalidad única e irrepetible de Sidonie ha supuesto sin ningún género de duda un nuevo soplo de aire fresco en la industria discográfica que además ha actuado como revulsivo, llevando a la banda a un status poco común, donde conservan su identidad artística en una gran multinacional que apoya todos sus movimientos. ¡Por algo será!
