Gretta Ziller is an Australian singer songwriter and multi instrumentalist working across Americana, alt country, folk, and roots music. Raised in the Upper Murray region of Victoria in a farming family, she began violin at age three and later expanded to guitar, piano, banjo, and bagpipes. She holds a Bachelor of Music from the University of Melbourne, majoring in voice, and began her professional career in opera before transitioning into contemporary songwriting and performance.

She gained national attention in 2011 at the CMAA College of Country Music graduation concert with a bagpipes performance that set her apart as a distinctive new voice. Her early career included finalist placements in Telstra Road to Discovery in 2012 and 2013, winning the 2013 TSA APRA New Songwriter of the Year award, an honourable mention in the Unsigned Only Songwriting Competition, and a top three result in Toyota Star Maker in 2015.

Her catalogue includes the EP Hell’s Half Acre and albums Queen of Boomtown, Judas Tree, All These Walls, and the anniversary release The Miles. Her work has earned Golden Guitar and CMC Music Award nominations and multiple Australian Music Prize long list appearances. In 2023, she became the first recipient of the CMAA Academy of Music Scholarship, which took her to Nashville and included an official showcase at AmericanaFest.

In 2024, Gretta completed The Long and Writing Road, a self directed project of 52 co writes in 52 weeks. This work now underpins her current album cycle, with new music releasing across 2025 and 2026. Now based in Melbourne, she tours nationally, performs solo and with band, and remains fully independent and self managed.
