Frenzal Rhomb’s Sans Souci turns 23 - and we’re celebrating!Here at Frenzal Rhomb, the number 23 has always been important to us. 23 pairs ofhuman chromosomes, William Burroughs’ 23 enigma, Psalm 23 in the bible, “theLord is my shepherd”; we’ve always been big with shepherds. Actually, that’s all nonsense, we just missed the 20th, and the world may not make ituntil the 25th, so this year we’re celebrating the 23rd anniversary of Sans Souci!The difficult sixth album, Sans Souci saw us back with Camel producer EddieAshworth for sixteen sweet servings of shrewd social commentary slid inside somesuperb punk pop skins, including the green-tinged morality tale of “Bucket Bong”, thecomplicated relationship drama of “I Went Out With A Hippy And Now I LoveEveryone Except For Her”, even trying our hand at sports metal with “Punisher”. There was the Kernaghanesque “Looking Good”, the Gastro-rock of “Ballchef”, andthat song about Russell Crowe’s band we’ve been advised by our lawyers not to talkabout. And heaps more!
