Sydney's Shady Nasty arrive with formal training in jazz and classical music, and promptly use it to make something that sounds nothing like either. Drawing from the worlds of modded cars, immigrant heritage and digital overstimulation, Kevin Stathis, Haydn Green and Luca Watson make a left-field breed of punk with the internal logic that only comes from musicians who know exactly what rules they're breaking. Influences like King Krule, Low Life and Show Me The Body are absorbed and reconfigured into something entirely their own.
Their debut album TREK, produced by Kim Moyes of The Presets, is a record about the unglamorous reality of staying creative and financially afloat in Sydney. It earned Album of the Week from FBi Radio, Feature Album from RTR FM, and coverage in NME, DIY and Stereogum, building on the cult following they've spent seven years cultivating through relentless gigging alongside Sleaford Mods, Amyl and The Sniffers, Ho99o9 and others.
Shady Nasty play The Tivoli for Open Season. For the mosh pit faithful and everyone brave enough to join them.
Open Season is supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland's Strategic Partnerships Fund, and by the Australian Government through the Office for the Arts Revive Live program.
