  • Amenra
    Amenra
Amenra is a progressive/sludge/post-metal band formed 2003 in Belgium (Kortrijk, West-Flanders).

Amenra delivers dark, heavy and sludgy post-hardcore in the vein of Cult of Luna, Isis and Neurosis. Intense, noisy and gloomy almost spheric at times. Rich and Textured riffs. Thunderous low tones. High impact percussion and cutthroat vocals splattered with a healthy dose of religious iconography. Coalesce into a beautiful pitch black collection of staggering proportion.

    Sophie Straat
Dutch folk singer Sophie Straat grew up at the end of the 90’s in the former, now gentrified working-class area de Pijp. Nowadays she writes, with her partner Wieger about the effects of gentrification in Amsterdam. Her songs give us insight into the lives of the owner of a ‘green cargo bike’, the employee of the Zuidas (financial district) and the child that has just moved to Amsterdam North. In March 2023, second album "Smartlap Is Niet Dood" came out on which the traditional smartlap was supplemented with more modern pop music.

    Ploegendienst
They had already given up on the band, and, for a year and a half, the members of Ploegendienst, the 100% anti-everything band around SMIB-founder Ray Fuego, had not spoken to each other. Then drummer Bram came with good news: there was still a substantial sum in the bandpot. His plan: to record new music on an island. Result "Ik" came out in April. Ploegendienst is back and they still want to demolish every venue as quickly as possible with their brand of 80s hardcore punk, oi and trash.

  • Doodseskader
    Doodseskader
DOODSESKADER (Dutch for “Death Squad”) is a merging of the minds of Tim De Gieter (Amenra, Much Luv Studio) and Sigfried Burroughs (Kapitan Korsakov, Paard).

Throughout their three years of existence, DOODSESKADER has been relentlessly pushing the envelope of what it means to be a “heavy” band. From the grunge-infused sludge on their EP “MMXX : Year Zero” to the punishing blend of hiphop and hardcore of their debut album “Year One” and the sonic onslaught of relentless rapping on standalone singles such as “FLF” and “Still Haven’t Killed Myself”, they’re breaking free of any form of categorization.
The duo has been compared to genre-defying trailblazers such as Ghostemane, Show Me The Body, and Ho99o9, however, they clearly bring their own sonic palette to the table.

The red thread in all of this has been their brutally honest and introspective lyrics. Far from your run-of-the mill type of band, DOODSESKADER uses their instrumentation as a sonic backdrop for the emotion and message they try to convey; their music serves as a mirror for life itself. Sometimes brutal, sometimes fragile, sometimes energizing, but always unexpected.

Now, on March 8th, with the arrival of their sophomore album “Year Two”, DOODSESKADER takes things up another couple of notches. From silky-soft “Pastel Prison” to the absolute carnage of “The Sheer Horror Of The Human Condition”, this record is a testament to both their creativity and their will to leave their mark on this world. It’s a trip in every sense of the word, tapping into even more genres such as R&B, techno, hardcore punk, and moody ballads reminiscent of the 90s, all blended seamlessly in their musical vocabulary and making for a sonic journey unlike anything you’ve heard before.

Where their last record “Year One” saw the duo struggling with their inner demons both past and present, “Year Two” is an undeniable display of progress; not only introspectively, but also musically. De Gieter and Burroughs sound outright bloodthirsty, ready to take on anyone in their way. Tracks like “Bone Pipe” or “I Ask With My Mouth, I’ll Take With My Fist” paint a vivid picture of the band’s will to plot their own their path through this world, while at the same time slowly coming to terms with their pasts on tracks like “Peine” or “People Have Poisoned My Mind To A Point Where I Can No Longer Function”. “Year Two” undeniably sees DOODSESKADER’s promise fulfilled: it’s both a complete teardown of genres and boundaries, a sonic wrecking ball wielded by two people trying to get better.

Live, DOODSESKADER proves to be an absolute must see, translating into their sold out AB- release and a sleuth shows over Europe playing with acts such as Brutus and Amenra and on the stages of festivals such as Hellfest (FR), Mystic Fest (PL), Lokerse Feesten (BE), Fluff Fest (CZ) and much more.
  • Luisa Almaguer
    Luisa Almaguer

“What do you see in the mirror? / What do you see when you look at me? / I carry wounds / from what you call love.” Mexican singer Luisa Almaguer knows that everything she does – every song she releases – is a political act. An outspoken advocate for trans rights, she identifies with feminism, speaks openly about privilege and works to reshape dominant social narratives. In 2018, she launched the first Latin American podcast focused on the life stories of the trans community. A year later, she released her second album Mataronomatar; her latest record, Weyes (2024), received praise from outlets such as Rolling Stone, Remezcla, KEXP and El País. That same year, she performed at Bahidorá festival alongside Damon Albarn and his Africa Express project – a line-up that visitors of last year’s Pohoda festival described as one of the highlights of the entire event. “For me, it was an immense school, a kind of university – the chance to work with so many artists from all over the world, speaking different languages. We had to communicate through music. It may sound like a cliché, but when you experience it, you quickly realise how universal and truly special a language music is,” she told Full Moon magazine about the collaboration that marked a turning point in her life. She continues to rehearse with Albarn while also nurturing ambitions as a filmmaker. Luisa Almaguer will perform in her Czech premiere at Colours of Ostrava with her own band, bringing a blend of folk, shoegaze, grunge and hyperpop – a performance that promises to be both urgent and uplifting.

  • ronker
    ronker
RONKER is not the first state-of-the-art speednoise band to ever exist, but they are the first ones to coin the term. Formed in 2020 in the heart of the swamplands of Belgium the band comes naturally weathered and screaming bloody murder. RONKER’s music can be described as a mix between Danzig-era Misfits and Helmet, equally influenced by the earliest of hardcore-punk and 90’s alternative guitar music.
Since its inception RONKER can mainly be found on the road. Carving out an audience in the most old-school fashion: by playing live. Always visceral, urgent and frantic, RONKER is prime example of being staunchly committed to rock and roll athleticism. Throwing shapes and taking names.

The new RONKER album - for short “FIAFTNSLABB” (pronounced FIAFT’NSHLJAB) - is not only an ode to celebrating naivety, the album is deliberately kept unpolished and playful.
It’s a kind of DUPLO-metal, opting for simplicity and a broad color palette.

On their debut album, the band sounds hungry, nervous, and indulges in its bipolair nature: the carelessness of post-punk and the concrete character of 90’s alternative metal both contribute equally to the bands DNA. In their concoction there are bits of hardcore, blend with noise, indie, prog and punk. No house is sacred anymore.

    ”FIAFTNSLABB” available now through Labelman.

    Dressed Like Boys
Jelle Denturck is the singer and frontman of DIRK., a popular Belgian indie band that – in his own words – ‘has been making a fair amount of noise these past few years’. But in fact he thinks he’s a real softie, with a record collection full of melancholic indie pop and rock music: Bowie, Beatles, Lou Reed, Elton John, Nina Simone, Anohni & The Johnsons, Sufjan Stevens, Perfume Genius, Wilco, Tobias Tesso Jr. … clearly there’s a side to Denturck that doesn’t easily reveal itself in DIRK.’s music.

It's about time, Denturck feels. As Dressed Like Boys he wanted to write songs and make a record all of his own. Not to turn it into an ego trip, but by way of self-examination. Denturck sings about the search for personal freedom, about his dearest friends, his homosexuality and relationship, but doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable topics like gay bashing either. It doesn’t get more personal and fragile than this.
