From 9–12 July 2026, Jäneda will host the second edition of KIKUMU, a festival dedicated to film, art and music. KIKUMU takes places at Jäneda, an hours drive or trainride away from the capital of Tallinn.
The festival’s name is made up of the words Kino (cinema), Kunst (art) and Muusika (music), which means that alongside the music programme the festival includes dedicated film and art programmes.
Born out of the wish to break people out of the bubbles of genre- or “closed circle” festivals, KIKUMU aims to reveal the golden thread that runs through all kinds of creative works that have the ambition to last more than a moment, fifteen minutes, or a single year.
Through that KIKUMU becomes a festival for everyone to enjoy: from young adults to families, and from punks and hippies to CEOs.
The 4-day festival pass grants access from Thursday through Sunday evening. The price includes five stages of music, the art and film programme, tours and workshops.
KIKUMU brings together musicians across a wide spectrum, ranging from improvisational jazz to deconstructed club beats, alongside hot names from local and international contemporary art scenes and a curated selection of festival-proven and cult films.
KIKUMU 2026 sees the arrival of the Estonian-UK dream pop phenomenon Night Tapes, fresh off their first supporting arena tour, the legendary British DJ and radio host Gilles Peterson, the UK-based nine-piece jazz, afrobeat and soul band Nubiyan Twist, German tech-house legends Booka Shade, Estonian americana-stars Holy Motors and the mythic Irish alternative pop singer-songwriter Maria Somerville.
Also performing are Swedish indie-pop legends Peter Bjorn and John, of "Young Folks" fame, who are celebrating the 20 year anniversary of their album "Writer's Block" with a special tour.
And of course many-many more artists already announced, from Estonia to South Africa, with more still to come.
As mentioned, KIKUMU combines a wide range of artistic fields. The art program consists of leading contemporary galleries presenting curated exhibitions within the labyrinthine spaces of the Jäneda Training. The film programme is curated by Kino Sõprus, Estonia’s oldest independent cinema.
And if all of the above fails to convince you: KIKUMU Nature offers hikes in the surrounding Nature, KIKUMU Kids keeps the youngest festivalgoers entertained, KIKUMU Talks sheds light on the acutest topics and KIKUMU running club keeps you fresh throughout the four-day festival.
And! Yes, that is still not all. KIKUMU will also play a role in choosing Estonia’s next-next president. And no, this is not a joke: the festival will host the finals of a media experiment aimed at finding willing candidates from all walks of life and giving them a presidential training.
This year the festival area will also expand into the manor and its surrounding park.
Jäneda Training Centre — the heart of the festival and of its main attractions — was designed by renowned architect Valve Pormeister and built in 1975 as an extension to the historic Jäneda manor house.
Originally a Soviet-era agricultural school, it stands as one of the most significant architectural works of its time, breathing and flowing in harmony with the surrounding natural landscape.
Accommodation is available in cabins, hostels, lakehouses and villas nearby. Accommodation is sold separately. Camping/tents and caravan accommodation is also available next to the festival area.
