High-energy duo Hat Fitz and Cara are among Australia’s most talented roots music artists. Combining their cultural backgrounds (AUS/IRE), this dynamic power force showcases Fitzy’s weathered vocals and soaring blues-soaked guitar with Cara’s pounding drums and soulful voice to create, what they call, Convict Blues – presenting them at the peak of their creative power.

Aside from the hill country injection, Fitz and Robinson cover Shirley Caeser’s ‘I Feel Good’, which really highlights the range of Robinson’s voice; and the Bonnie Raitt version of Steve Winwood’s ‘Can’t Find My Way Home’, which employs again subtle use of the flute and Fitz’s acoustic guitar mastery. And in the originals, the message that pulsates outward is one of positivity, of kindness, of the need to stand up in a world where values are waning and the idea of just being nice is in seemingly short supply.

Hat Fitz & Cara
Hat Fitz & Cara’s musical style is a unique combination of hill-style Gospel blues with old time flavourings. This husband and wife duo embellishes impeccable rootsy originals with soulful vocals reminiscent of a time once forgotten. Hat Fitz is a “veteran” wild man of the blues scene in Australia. He has a record 18 straight appearances at Byron’s East Coast Blues and Roots Festival, a record that is not likely to ever be broken, and one which bears testimony to his amazing live performances and popularity with festival goers. Cara draws on her soul background (she’s toured Europe and the United States with singers such as Jamiroquai and Corinne Bailey-Rae), and although blessed with a sensational voice she was not content to be labelled as ‘just a singer’. She has taken to drumming duties as well as washboards, flute and tin whistle, sometimes all at once. Together this pair will take you on a musical journey with ample, boisterous highs, and longing, bluesy lows.
