Forget thin paint and a skinny brush. This one is thick paste and a palette knife, and you build the picture up until you can run your hand across it and feel every ridge.

You are painting the surf. Turquoise water breaking into thick cream whitewater, dragged out across warm sand with a beach umbrella dropped in for good measure. The wave is where all the paste goes, so the raised part is the hero of the picture rather than a detail in the corner. One canvas, yours, coming home with you.

One thing to know before you book. This is not one of our singalong nights. No live vocalist, no belting out the chorus. The playlist sits under the room and the focus is the knife in your hand. If you want the loud version, we are back at the Hervey Bay Hotel at 6pm the same day for the 70s and 80s Singalong.

Everything is supplied. Paste, paints, knives, easel, apron and a host guiding you through every step. No experience needed either, because a knife edge is meant to look irregular, which quietly makes beginners look good.

Come in for lunch first, paint through the afternoon, still have your night free.
