Lisa Miller is acclaimed by critics and fans alike throughout Australia as a sublime songwriter, possessed of a blue-eyed, broken-hearted voice which is utterly distinctive. Her songs are at once perceptive and evocative, desperately sad and munificently hopeful, spare and substantial.
Miller has released 4 solo albums since her 1996 debut. Her 5th album Kangaroo Island is due for release in late 2006. Based in Melbourne, she rarely ventures far from her home town. However Miller toured with Neil Young in 2003 as the support on his Australian tour, and other other artists she has toured with include Nick Cave, Billy Bragg, Nick Lowe, Alex Chilton, Bert Jansch, Iris Dement, Jonathan Richman, The Cruel Sea, Tex Perkins, and Tim Rogers.
Miller was a final-five nominee for Best Female Artist in Australia's ARIA Awards in 1999, 2003 and again in 2004. Altogether she has been nominated 6 times for ARIA awards. Despite this, and the unanimous acclaim of reviewers, she has never been deemed sufficiently 'commercial' for Australian mainstream radio and major labels, and so remains a connoisseur's favourite rather than a household name.
