Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum, commonly known as just Nassau Coliseum, is a multi-purpose indoor arena in Uniondale, New York. The Coliseum is approximately 19mi east of New York City on Long Island.Opened in 1972, the Coliseum occupies of Mitchel Field, site of a former Army and Air Force base. The facility is located in the Town of Hempstead, within the Uniondale 11553 ZIP code. The Coliseum is used for sporting events, concerts, large exhibitions and shows as well as trade shows — at the main arena, 60,000 at the Expo Center. In 2015, the arena was temporarily closed for a major renovation which was completed in April 2017.The arena was the home for the New York Islanders of the National Hockey League from 1972 to 2015 and the New York Nets of the American Basketball Association and National Basketball Association from 1972 to 1977; both teams currently play at Barclays Center in Brooklyn. In 2017, the venue became the new home of the Brooklyn Nets' NBA G League team, the Long Island Nets. After their unpopular move to Barclays Center upon the start of the renovation, it has been reported that the venue was preparing a plan to allow the Islanders to return to the renovated Coliseum.
