**Nellie McKay** has announced Gee Whiz: The **Get Away From Me** Demos, an 18-track collection of rare recordings that led to McKay’s groundbreaking debut album, Get Away From Me (2004). Jea Street will open her show in Elkton on May 29!
When Get Away From Me was released on February 10, 2004, **Rolling Stone** gave the album ★★★★. McKay made her national TV debut on The Late Show with David Letterman, and the record landed in the Billboard Top 200. She was compared to both “Doris Day and Eminem,” said NPR Morning Edition. “And throw in a bit of Billie Holiday for good measure.” “It was a different time,” says Nellie.
Known for her sharp wit, vintage charm, and genre-defying style, Nellie blends jazz, pop, folk, and cabaret into something truly original. With a voice as sweet as it is subversive and songs that mix humor, heartbreak, and social commentary, her live performances are as unpredictable as they are unforgettable.
Smart, funny, and totally unique — Nellie McKay live at Elkton Music Hall is a night you’ll be talking about long after the last note fades.
